Severe flooding has rocked the state of Louisiana in recent days, causing over 20,000 people to be rescued and killing at least six people. The devastation has been so severe, that President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in select cities, including Baton Rouge.
In a video released on LSU’s Twitter account Monday, Les Miles shared his thoughts on the crisis currently wracking the state.

“The leadership here at this school understands that we are Louisiana,” Miles says in the video. “And that we will participate and that you can count on us for whatever we can give you. It’s nice that there’s a shelter right here on campus, and I’d guess that there’d be a number of my staff that would volunteer there.”
Miles explained that the rains and flooding have been a distraction for his team, but that the Tigers remain focused on preparing for the upcoming season and are glad to have blue skies above them once again.
LSU begins its season with a neutral-site game against the Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
