Video: Division III team completes wacky behind the back two-point conversion
This college football season has had its share of strange plays. But this play has to be one of the strangest.
St. Thomas, a Division III school in St. Paul, Minn., was in the midst of an 80-3 rout of Carleton last Saturday when it pulled off a fake extra point.
On the play, Charlie Dowdle, the holder, took the snap, then faked a lateral to kicker Paul Graupner. Dowdle then blindly threw the ball behind his back into the end zone, where teammate Matt Christenson caught it for the two-point conversion.
The unique two-point conversion gave the Tommies an 8-3 lead, and they would go on to score 72 more points before the day was over.
St. Thomas is 9-0 and ranked No. 4 in Division III. Carleton is 1-8.
