Texas A&M was back on the practice field for its eighth practice of the spring on Tuesday. After practice, Kevin Sumlin spent some time answering questions from the media.
Most importantly, Sumlin updated the media on Myles Garrett’s status. The star defensive end is expected to miss the entire spring as he recovers from thumb surgery. Sumlin said Garrett still has a cast on his hand and will be getting his pin removed on Friday. The head coach added that getting Garrett back will help the Aggies test out their left tackles against “probably the best pass rusher in the country.”
Frank Iheanacho, who was suspended following his arrest two weeks ago, was back with the team on Tuesday. Sumlin said that his status for the fall was still up in the air and that the rising sophomore will have to take care of some things off the field before his situation is completely resolved.
Asked about how his players were adjusting to John Chavis’ defensive scheme, Sumlin talked about how vital the defensive ends and cornerbacks will be if the defense is to improve. He said the system should benefit long players like CB Victor Davis and said that Daeshon Hall is up to 258 pounds, the heaviest he’s been at Texas A&M.
