Video: Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs learns strength from those who struggle with disabilities

In an emotional segment on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning, Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs’ relationships with his disabled mother and a young friend he met on a charity visit to a hospital were featured.
Dobbs’ mother, Stephanie, has been in a wheelchair since Josh was young, but she said in the piece that she never let that stop the family from traveling and seeing the country.
“Life’s going to be a challenge, but you don’t give up and you have a positive spirit about it,” Stephanie said.
The Dobbs family travels to nearly every Tennessee game to see their son play, which has made an impact on Josh.
“You really just learn to think about the simplest things from a different mindset,” he said.
Because of that, he’s formed a special relationship with a young boy named A.J. Cucksey, who has battled brain tumors his whole life.
The video shows Dobbs visiting with the youngster, playing football and other games with him.
“I never had a sibling, so I definitely look at him as a younger brother,” Dobbs said.
Dobbs said he’s inspired by both his mom and Cucksey, who face life with such a positive attitude despite their struggles.
“Just seeing how they carry themselves and their strength through adversity has a big impact on how I carry myself,” he said.
Tennessee takes on Georgia at 3:30 Eastern time on CBS.
