Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller addressed the Halloween party he threw on the night of quarterback Chad Kelly’s arrest, saying it was a “private” and “safe” event, according to ESPN.
The former Ole Miss quarterback was arrested for first-degree criminal trespass later in the night when he allegedly walked into a couple’s home, sat on the couch, and started mumbling incoherently. Kelly was released by the Broncos the following day.
“It was a private event, it was safe,” said the former Texas A&M linebacker. “I had team security there, I had my own private security there … just all of Denver sports. It was a private event, it was Halloween party, it was a safe event.”
Kelly reportedly was acting up at the party and was even asked to leave the party for his behavior.
“Of course, we got the news about Chad. I care about Chad as a person,” Miller continued. “The party was separate from his issues. I love the guy, I wish the best for him.”
Kelly has had discipline issues dating back to his high school and college days, when he was dismissed from Clemson’s football team. Kelly went on win a NJCAA National Championship at East Mississippi Community College before transferring to Ole Miss.
Kelly was taken by the Broncos at the 253rd pick in the draft as Mr. Irrelevant, and was serving as Case Keenum’s backup at the time of the arrest.
Kelly has a court date on Nov. 8.
