In one of the most bizarre retirements in NFL history, Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis entered the team locker room for halftime and never returned.

According to his teammates, Davis decided he had had enough, and just didn’t want to play anymore.

After the game, Davis released this statement, confirming his intentions to retire. Check it out, courtesy of @NFL on Twitter:

Davis said reality hit him “fast and hard,” that he “shouldn’t be out there anymore.” As to what “reality” means, it could have been that he realized that he’s getting older, or that his Bills team is really bad at football. Buffalo was already losing to the Los Angeles Chargers 28-6 at halftime.

Whatever the case, Davis quit on his teammates, something that he at least used to think was unbecoming of those who are successful in life.

The Bills ended up losing to the Chargers 31-20, dropping them to 0-2 on the season.
