WATCH: Arkansas backup QB Ty Storey starred on Saturday, may have seized starting job entering Week 2

Arkansas junior quarterback Ty Storey was not named the starter against Eastern Illinois in Chad Morris’ debut as the head coach in Fayetteville, but he stole the show from sophomore Cole Kelley, who did get the nod.
Storey finished the game 12 for 17 passing with 261 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 55-20 win, playing just less than three quarters, and ended the game with a 257.8 Passer Efficiency Rating. Storey added on 15 yards and 1 touchdown on three carries as well. Sophomore Cole Kelley was named the starter during game week, but Chad Morris made it clear that both quarterbacks would get a chance to play, and Storey went into the game after the first quarter to replace the struggling Kelley.

Storey was 10 for 13 for 214 yards and 3 touchdowns in the second quarter alone, then left the game in the fourth quarter for Kelley to re-enter and finish it out. Kelley finished nine for 12 with 92 yards and one touchdown in the air and capped off the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 42-yard touchdown to tight end Austin Cantrell.
Storey was without question the better quarterback on Saturday, but the battle between he and Cole Kelley will likely continue into next Saturday. Arkansas is on the road at Colorado State, and Chad Morris did not make it clear after the opener who will start in Week 2.
