A controversial play call in Georgia’s Class 3A state championship game is receiving a lot of attention — mainly because of how bad the call appeared to be and the implications that it had.
Peach County High School, which was trailing Calhoun High School 10-6 late in the fourth quarter, seemingly scored a touchdown on 4th-and-9. That should have put Peach County ahead 12-10.
However, the touchdown was called back after officials ruled the play as an incomplete pass instead. Calhoun went on to win the game 10-6.
A Peach County wide receiver appeared to clearly make a “football move” after catching the pass, and then extended the ball across the goal line. But the refs didn’t see it that way.
Peach County principal Ken Hartley formally submitted a letter to the Georgia High School Association on Monday to request a meeting over the call, according to a report from Macon CBS affiliate WMAZ.

Down 10-6, Peach County scored a TD on 4th & 9 w/ 3 minutes left. REFS CALLED IT INCOMPLETE. Game winning touchdown w/ 3 minutes left is called INCOMPLETE by the refs.
THE REF JUST BLEW THE 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. Worst call I’ve ever seen on THIS STAGE #GHSA #Peach #Calhoun pic.twitter.com/YNt0Q9OgV0
