Michael Porter Jr. injured himself two minutes into Mizzou’s season opener this year, and it looked like that would be all the action he’d see for the Tigers.
However, he willed himself back onto the court for the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament, playing in losses against Georgia and Florida State.
There was some discussion about whether he’d declare for the 2018 NBA Draft or return to Mizzou for his sophomore season, but he posted on Instagram on Monday evening that he was going pro:
Coming into the season, MPJ was projected to be a top-5 NBA Draft pick. While that might not be the case after his injury-plagued season, it’d be shocking if he fell out of the top 10.
While some Mizzou fans will lament the fact that they didn’t get to see more of Porter, you can’t fault a guy for wanting to go earn NBA money as soon as possible. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes in June’s draft, but wherever he goes, hopefully he stays healthy.
