Alabama head coach Nick Saban has long had a reputation of not showing too much emotion, even in major moments of victory.
Some have questioned whether he’s ever happy.
But on Monday night — after Alabama defeated Georgia 26-23 on the final play of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Atlanta — Saban couldn’t hide his emotion.
True freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hit wide receiver DeVonta Smith on a perfect, 41-yard strike to give the Crimson Tide a walk-off touchdown in overtime.
Saban made the executive decision to bench usual starting quarterback Jalen Hurts for Tagovailoa at halftime. It paid off, as the freshman tossed three TDs in the second half.
Alabama won its fifth national title in the past nine years, and this time, Saban just couldn’t hide how happy he was.
This particular championship may have been the biggest moment of his coaching career — and that’s definitely saying something.
