We all love the scholarship surprise videos.

It’s cool to see teams come up with creative ways to reward their players, and Penn State had a really good one this week.

Offensive lineman Charlie Shuman started a foundation, “Big Helping Little,” to help cover costs for a sick little girl in his hometown.

Maiya Colon was born with a genetic abnormality knows as progressive osseous heteroplasia, which causes bone to form in unusual places such as muscles and skin. She’s had several infections and emergency surgeries that have placed her family in a financial hole.

When coach James Franklin decided to put Shuman on scholarship, he wanted the Colon family to be a part of the announcement.

As Franklin said in the video, these guys have the opportunity to be more than just college football players, and it’s heartwarming to see someone like Shuman go out of his way to help someone less fortunate as well as be rewarded with a scholarship.
