Purdue ran an impressive trick play against Arizona during Wednesday night’s Foster Farms Bowl.

The play might look familiar to SEC fans — particularly those who follow Auburn.

The Boilermakers brought out the classic dubbed by Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn as “Woody,” where a small, fast player crouches and hides behind the offensive line before the play, and then subsequently carries the ball out of nowhere.

Purdue ran the play toward the end of the first half while leading Arizona 28-14. The Boilermakers tweaked it to resemble a fake kneel down, which was a brilliant move by head coach Jeff Brohm.

Running back D.J. Knox gained 41 yards and Purdue ended up adding a field goal before the half.

Here’s a look at when Auburn successfully ran the play against Tennessee in 2009 with Travante Stallworth:

The first time Malzahn called the play — or at least the first time it was documented — was in 2006 against Auburn. Malzahn was Arkansas’ offensive coordinator at the time.
