Former Florida wide receiver and current SEC Network analyst Chris Doering is apparently “amazed” by what Florida’s coaching staff is doing.

Doering joined reporter Mitch Gerber recently to break down the Gators’ 2018 recruiting class, and specifically, how Florida fared on the first day of the Early Signing Period.

The Gators’ class currently is ranked 14th in the nation and No. 4 in the SEC, according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.

“I’m amazed at what this staff has been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time,” Doering said. “The way they’ve been able to orchestrate and utilize relationships … I’m impressed by what has transpired to this point in time. I like what the staff has done to this point.”

The former Gator said he was impressed not just by the guys Florida has signed, but the way they fit in the right scheme and the right culture.

He also was particularly enamored with head coach Dan Mullen’s ability to land elite quarterback Emory Jones.

“To close with Emory Jones speaks not only to the pull of the University of Florida, but also with what Coach Mullen and this group have done to establish themselves as a place that will put a great offensive scheme together, and also their ability to coach quarterbacks,” Doering said. “This was the crown jewel of this class. And now that you have the quarterback in this place, these guys can start recruiting the guys that will sign in February.”

Doering said one of his favorite things about Mullen so far is the way he embraces the history and success Florida has had in the past couple decades. And of course, there’s also his long history of success within the SEC.
