Monday’s game turned into an incredibly tense affair that would need OT to determine a national champion.
Georgia’s defense and balanced offensive attack stole the show in the first half against Alabama. The Crimson Tide struggled to move the ball under QB Jalen Hurts while the Bulldogs controlled time of possession and carried a 13-0 lead to halftime.
Hurts would be replaced by Tua Tagovailoa after halftime, but mounting a comeback still looked like a long shot for much of the second half. Tagovailoa would jump start the offense and put Alabama in position to kick a game-winning field goal at the end of regulation.
That kick would sail wide left and sent the game to OT. The OT period would feature a roller coaster of emotions for fans of both teams, but the last high of the game would belong to Alabama. Tagovailoa threw an unbelievable touchdown on second-and-long to send the Tide to another national title under Nick Saban.
As one would expect, Alabama fans in Tuscaloosa were sent into an absolute frenzy following the incredible finish. ESPN College Football shared the reaction of Tide fans at a bar in Tuscaloosa, and it is a madhouse of joy and jubilation.
