What a wild week in SEC football. From a Thursday night slate that felt like one big blooper, to a couple of upsets that saw expectations shaken up, these are the wildest moments from Week 1.
Bloopers
Western Kentucky Starts Off Strong
Gentlemen, starter your … er can we get a do over? The madness started outside of the SEC, as WKU muffed their entrance. The best part about this clip is that WKU won 46-14 over Rice after failing to leave the tunnel.

David Pollack Rips His Pants
Like a music video for “I Ain’t as Good as I Once Was,” former SEC great David Pollack tried to prove that he still had some motor left in those 32-year-old legs on College GameDay. To his credit, the former first-round pick out of Georgia easily cleared the 52-inch box jump, but his pants weren’t so lucky.
Stuck the jump. Ripped his pants. https://t.co/OHNnd7ACdY

Bright Lights Get to Jalen Hurts Early
A misread between two underclassmen led to a ball on the ground. Thankfully for Hurts, his fumble was forgiven thanks to the scoreless drive that ensued – and his long, scorching pass to ArDarius Stewart shortly after. If Hurts becomes the answer for the Tide, he can look back on his first play, a fumble on national TV, and laugh.

Questionable Calls
Holy Pass Interference, Mizzou!
Missouri didn’t have a great day on Saturday as it lost 26-11 to West Virginia. Though the Mountaineers controlled the game and Mizzou never truly got its offense going, it likely would’ve been a much closer game without two key pass interference penalties. Two of WVU’s first three scoring drives were set up by the refs on balls that were arguably uncatchable. The first was on 3rd-and-11 from the Mizzou 38, which led to a 23-yard TD on the next play. The next on 2nd-and-6 from the Mizzou 26 allowed WVU to attempt a much easier field goal. Fans were less than pleased.
Mizzou pass interference extends #WVU drive on 3rd & 11. Rushel Shell rips off 23-yard TD on next snap. Barry Odom no fan of either play

Georgia Feels the Wrath of the Whistle
Georgia thought they had a quick TD after this Mitch Trubisky pump-fumble, but it was ultimately overturned. That score would’ve put the Dogs up 14-0 on a favored Tarheels squad. This one looks like he was coming forward with it, but it’s still a little dirty that they made UGA do all that waiting and celebrating, only to come away with nothing.
This was just ruled a fumble and Georgia returned it for a TD, under review now! #UGAvsUNC https://t.co/JEYq8El6s4

Jalen Reeves-Maybin Epitomizes Tennessee’s Frustration
Tennessee had a roller coaster of a game on Thursday, and one fraught with frustration, as they needed overtime to squeak by Appalachian State 20-13. Amidst that chaos, star DB Jalen Reeves-Maybin laid some helmet lumber on return man Jaquil Capel early in the game.

LSU’s Josh Boutte Absolutely Destroys Wisconsin Player After Whistle
There were few bright moments for LSU’s offense in its streak-snapping loss to Wisconsin at Lambeau. For fans, this loss was embarrassing, and that feeling was punctuated by Boutte’s late hit. LSU is a mess heading into Week 2, and hopefully Les Miles can use this one as a coaching moment.

Jabari Ruffin with the Worst Kind of Unnecessary Roughness
A central theme in these penalties is one player’s feeling of helplessness. Can Ruffin alone stop the Tide from rolling over the Trojans? No. But he can get ejected and stick his team with a 15-yard penalty. Football is the ultimate team sport, and just like his SEC counterparts above, Ruffin hurt his team here.
