Week 1’s streaks and records to watch had a heavy “season-opener” flavor to them.
Now that we’ve got those out of the way, let’s take a look at streaks we can watch for beyond the first game of the season.
Pay special attention to Kentucky’s streak this week. In this writer’s opinion, it is the most oddly interesting of this week’s streaks.
Here is a noteworthy streak or record to keep an eye on for each SEC team as we enter play in Week 2:
- Alabama (vs. Middle Tennessee): The Crimson Tide has a 13-game winning streak in home openers at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- Arkansas (vs. Toledo): The Razorbacks have won 21 of their last 22 non-conference games in Little Rock.
- Auburn (vs. Jacksonville State): The Tigers will be playing for their 300th win as a ranked team. They are 299-103-6 all-time while inside the Top 25.
- Florida (vs. East Carolina): New streak here. Florida’s offense is 8-for-8 on scoring while in the red zone under Jim McElwain.
- Georgia (vs. Vanderbilt): Due mostly to injuries, Bulldogs RB Keith Marshall broke a 25-game streak in which he went without a touchdown spanning back to the 2013 opener against Clemson. Can he start a new type of streak with a touchdown against Vandy?
- Kentucky (at South Carolina): According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, the Wildcats have won their second game of the season for 17 consecutive years.
- LSU (at Mississippi State): The Tigers have won seven consecutive games against Mississippi State in Starkville. (MSU beat LSU in Baton Rogue last season.)
- Mississippi State (vs. LSU): Dak Prescott has thrown a touchdown pass in 15 consecutive games, which is the longest streak in the conference and second-longest in FBS behind TCU’s Trevone Boykin.
- Missouri (at Arkansas State): The Tigers have won 10 consecutive road games, with their last road loss coming at Texas A&M on Nov. 24, 2012.
- Ole Miss (vs. Fresno State): The Rebels have won 11 of the last 12 games in which they have held an opponent to 20 or fewer points.
- South Carolina (vs. Kentucky): Steve Spurrier holds a 20-2 career record against Kentucky. A win in this game would make the Wildcats the team that he has beaten most in his career.
- Tennessee (vs. Oklahoma): Vols WR Pig Howard enters play with a catch in 33 consecutive games in which he played.
- Texas A&M (vs. Ball State): The Aggies are a perfect 16-0 in non-conference games under Kevin Sumlin.
- Vanderbilt (vs. Georgia): The Commodores have lost their last five games against ranked opponents, with the last win coming against Georgia in 2013.
