The Big 12 has five teams ranked this week, while the SEC has six. How would a poll look that included just teams from these two conferences?
The order of the teams in the SEC follow the Week 3 SDS power index.
Here are the projected rankings:
PLAYOFF CALIBER
Ole Miss jumped to the top after beating Alabama last week and in the Associated Press poll, the two teams are tied at No. 3. SDS goes with Ole Miss because of a more quality win than TCU has. Baylor also makes this category as does Georgia. The top three are averaging more than 60 points per game.
1. Ole Miss
2. TCU
3. Baylor
4. Georgia
SERIOUS CONTENDERS
Oklahoma has an SEC win, which makes them a serious contender. They’re joined by intrastate rival Oklahoma State. LSU, Alabama and Texas A&M make the cut here.
Should one of the top four falter in any little way, one of these teams will be poised to make the run for a title.
5. LSU
6, Oklahoma
7. Alabama
8. Oklahoma State
9. Texas A&M
KNOCKING ON THE DOOR
There are several teams that are knocking on the door simply because it is so early in the season. Four from the SEC belong here, three others from the Big 12.
By December, don’t be surprised if one or two of these teams might crash the party.
10. West Virginia
11. Missouri
12 Mississippi State
13. Texas Tech
14. Tennessee
15. Auburn
16. Kansas State
BETTER THAN YOU THINK
Even though these teams have had losses, they each will improve during the season and if they don’t contend for a conference title, they will certainly be a spoiler.
17. Arkansas
18. Florida
19. Texas
20. Kentucky
AND THE REST
These unfortunate teams are going to have to face a tough road each Saturday the rest of the season.
21. South Carolina
22. Iowa State
23. Vanderbilt
24. Kansas
