Victories both big and small happened during Week 3 play in the SEC. Missouri beat Connecticut by the tiny final score of 9-6. On the flip side, Mississippi State dismantled Northwestern State to the tune of 62-13.
No matter the score, the trend this weekend was winning teams tended to receive more penalties. Ole Miss incurred double the amount of penalties than Alabama. LSU had one more than Auburn. Georgia had 7, South Carolina only 4. Vanderbilt received 7 penalties while Austin Peay had 5. While Texas A&M had only 5 penalties, Nevada had 3. And Florida, the most penalized team in the SEC for two weeks in a row, had 10 to Kentucky’s 5.
Half of the SEC committed more penalties than they did in Week 2. Florida was not one of those teams. The Gators actually went down from 12 to 10, which is progress in its smallest form. Jim McElwain is more than aware that penalties is one of the biggest issues facing his football program, and is doing work to address it.
