Today, take a look at 10 interesting tidbits about Week 5 of the SEC schedule:
- This week will feature three conference games between ranked SEC teams (Alabama at Georgia, Mississippi State at Texas A&M and Ole Miss at Florida), which is the most in one week for the league thus far in 2015.
- There are four teams (Auburn, Kentucky, LSU and Vanderbilt) playing non-conference games this week. The combined record against those opponents is 16-3, with LSU as the only team playing an opponent it has never played before (Eastern Michigan).
- Alabama will make its first visit to Athens, Ga. since 2008. The Crimson Tide beat Georgia 41-30 there that day. The last meeting between the two teams was at the 2012 SEC Championship, which was also won by Alabama.
- Though the two schools have not played in the last 10 years, Vanderbilt has lost its last three games with Middle Tennessee, including losses in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
- This will be the first meeting between Ole Miss and Florida since the infamous Rebels win at The Swamp in 2008, which inspired a post-game speech from Tim Tebow promising that we would never see a team play harder. The Gators went on to win the national championship.
- South Carolina won the only meeting at Faurot Field between the Gamecocks and Missouri in 2013. However, the Tigers hold a 3-2 lead in the all-time series, which includes a pair of bowl games played prior to Missouri joining the league in 2012.
- Mississippi State and Texas A&M have combined for 171 points during the last two games between the programs. That’s a lot of touchdowns, guys.
- Saturday will mark just the eighth trip to Neyland Stadium for Arkansas, and the first since 2007. The Razorbacks have not beaten Tennessee there since 1992.
- Auburn played its first game against San Jose State last season, winning 59-13. Entering this meeting on a two-game losing streak, Tigers fans will hope for similar success in 2015.
- Though the campuses are approximately 25 miles apart, Saturday’s game will mark just the fourth meeting between Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky. The Wildcats are 3-0 in the previous three.
