Coach Hugh Freeze pleased with Ole Miss’ progress on weekly radio show

Out of the bye the Mississippi Rebels host LSU on Saturday in a game that will decide who finishes where in the SEC West standings.
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze hosted his weekly radio show Tuesday as he answered questions from disappointed but eager Rebels fans.
In control of their destiny, the Rebels lost to Arkansas 53-52 in OT to begin November in what could be the SEC’s wildest game this season.
“You listen to all those highlights, they were all offensively,” the coach said of the overtime thriller. “Different teams match up different ways, a little bit of a difficult matchup for us. Still thought we made enough plays to win it. Never seen anything like that. … I thought we won it twice.”
Most of the discussion on Tuesday night focused on the competitiveness of the SEC, particularly in the West. No team is below .500 in the division and the lowest ranked team, Auburn, was ranked No. 6 in the country in the preseason.
“If we were to lay it out. There’s probably four teams that just have a better depth chart than (the rest of the league). Everyone else can beat one another,” Freeze said. “The difference in talent level between most of us, there’s very little difference… We’ve closed the gap a lot and it’s shown.”
Since 1970 the Rebels have ranked in the AP Top 10 only four times as the past two seasons has seen Ole Miss become much more relevant in the Strong Everywhere Conference than they’ve been in quite some time.
“We could easily be controlling our own destiny, but to even say that at Ole Miss (is an accomplishment). We see it from both sides,” he said. “We believe we are going to win it every time we step on the field.”
The Ole Miss coach finished the conversation by praising the team’s Biletnikoff award finalist WR Laquon Treadwell. The junior receiver is nominated alongside the nation’s better receivers, including TCU’s Josh Doctson, Baylor’s Corey Coleman, and Notre Dame’s William Fuller.
“(Treadwell’s) had a great year. Hopefully he’ll have three games left that he’ll play extremely well,” Freeze said.
