Routing the Lamar Cardinals, 62-3, at Kyle Field in College Station on Saturday, Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M improved to 2-1 on the season.
Leading 13-0 at the end of the first quarter and 27-0 at halftime, the Aggies did a good job of burying Lamar early.
Overall, the second-year Texas A&M coach seemed pretty pleased with his team’s performance:
Jimbo Fisher: Guys did a really good job tonight. We played well. Defensively, we leveraged the ball and played the ball really well. Offensively, I thought we had good balance but had two critical drops that cost us points.

Texas A&M’s leading rusher, freshman Isaiah Spiller, continued his early-season success:
Fisher: Spiller had another 100-yard game. Every time he goes out there, he gets better. There's a lot to learn but he's had two 100-yard games. This will be a big week for him [before Auburn].

Holding Lamar to just 75 yards passing, Fisher liked what he saw from his defensive backs:
Fisher: Much [more pleased with DBs]. The guys are learning the scheme and we've got more depth. And the competition level has elevated guys' game to get on the field. I'm very pleased.

Not dressed for the win, Fisher also offered an update on redshirt junior wide receiver Quartney Davis:
Fisher: Quartney Davis had something tweaked but he should be full-go and ready to go [vs. Auburn].

As Fisher alluded to a couple of times in his comments, Texas A&M hosts No. 8 Auburn on Saturday (3:30PM ET, SEC on CBS).
