The Kentucky Wildcats came away with a victory on Saturday against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, winning 28-17.
However, the Wildcats put on a far-from-perfect performance and were even down at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. As one would imagine, Mark Stoop was not thrilled after the game.

Stoops lamented his team’s inability to “establish the line of scrimmage” and explained that the play-action isn’t as effective “when it’s 2nd and 10.”
Stoops: “We weren’t establishing the line of scrimmage in this game … our play-action game is not nearly as effective when its 2nd and 10.”

Stoops mentioned that he wasn’t even happy after last week’s blowout win against Ball State. The veteran coach said that he is “pissed off when we win, pissed off when we lose.”

Mark Stoops: “I took my own joy last week. I’m pissed off when we win, pissed off when we lose.
“I know that team is eager to get back to work and they’re willing to do it.”

Finally, Stoops admitted that a win is a win, but there is still one area that has not been cleaned up.
Stoops: “Bottom line is winning. An area we didn’t get cleaned and we have to get improved in penalties.” Wildcats had 10 flags for 70 yards today.

Stoops certainly has a point about penalties. Several positive plays were negated because of penalties, and that kind of thing can sink a team against tougher competition.
The Wildcats have another chance at a “get-right” game next week when the Akron Zips come to town. SEC play starts the week after that.
