There was plenty of criticism surrounding both the Arkansas Razorbacks and the TCU Horned Frogs after each team struggled to beat inferior teams in Week 1.
Heading into this week, the media are excited to see which team will rebound in a battle of former Southwest Conference rivals.
Although TCU will enter Saturday’s primetime matchup as the favorite, plenty of media members believe the Razorbacks will be able to hang tough in Fort Worth.
Here is what a few media outlets are saying about one of the premier games on tap for Saturday night:
- Saturday’s game will be an ‘Old School’ clash, according to NBC’s Dallas-Fort Worth affiliate. There is plenty of history between Arkansas and TCU as the two teams have met 68 times with the Razorbacks holding a 43-23-2 advantage all-time. Even though many of the players who will suit up on Saturday have likely never heard of the old Southwest Conference, the matchup will be a treat for fans who have fond memories of the SWC rivalry.
- The Horned Frogs’ defense will have to be much improved, according to Fox Sports, which should come as no surprise after TCU allowed 41 points to South Dakota State in its opener last weekend. Although the Horned Frogs have made defense their calling card when they’ve been at their best in recent years, their struggles against the Jackrabbits proved the defense may be vulnerable. TCU head coach Gary Patterson said the unit will have to be better because, “If not, they’ll have 1,000 yards and 1,000 points. We’ve got to do a lot better job this week.”
- The Razorbacks will bring a healthy dose of power with them to Texas, Grant McGalliard writes in a story for the Dallas News. Arkansas routinely boasts one of the biggest offensive lines in all of college football, and this year is no different. After watching the Horned Frogs struggle defensively against South Dakota State, McGalliard said TCU can expect the Razorbacks to try to pound the football to move the chains and set up quarterback Austin Allen and the passing game.
- Arkansas sophomore linebacker Dre Greenlaw will be riding high, so says Jimmy Carter in a recent story for Arkansas Online. In the opener against Louisiana Tech, the Fayetteville native recorded 7 tackles — which tied for the team high — and came away with an interception. Carter believes Greenlaw’s performance indicates the sophomore is fully entrenched in defensive coordinator Robb Smith’s scheme, which could mean a big season for the linebacker.
- Secondary injuries may hurt the Razorbacks, according to Tom Murphy of the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette. After junior cornerback Kevin Richardson suffered a season-ending pectoral injury, Arkansas defensive backs coach Paul Rhoads will have his hands full trying to formulate a plan to stop TCU quarterback Kenny Hill and the Horned Frogs’ explosive offense.
