It was a light week in the SEC West with only one divisional game played Saturday. Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State each had the week off to rest for the stretch run.
Here is what we learned from the teams that took the field:
ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS: We learned Alex Collins is the second-best running back in the SEC. Collins ran for 173 yards and five touchdowns against Tennessee-Martin. Four of his touchdowns were short yardage, but his 63-yard run showed his explosiveness. His yardage total is impressive considering he did not play in the fourth quarter.
AUBURN TIGERS: We learned the Johnson boys will both line up at quarterback for Auburn. Sean White got the start for the Tigers against Ole Miss and took the majority of snaps, but Jeremy Johnson and Kerryon Johnson each lined up at quarterback in a Wildcat set. Also, with Peyton Barber nursing injuries he sustained last week at Arkansas, we learned the Tigers have another talented back. Jovon Robinson had a game-high 91 yards for Auburn, including a 22-yarder.
OLE MISS REBELS: We learned not to give Laquon Treadwell extra motivation. The junior suffered a broken leg last season against Auburn as he was literally inches away from scoring the potential game-winning touchdown. Before Saturday’s game, he said he wanted to make the Tigers feel his pain. They did. Treadwell grabbed seven passes for 114 yards and a pretty 33-yard touchdown to seal the win for the Rebels. He also completed a pass for another 21 yards. For the season, Treadwell has thrown two passes and completed both of the with one going for a touchdown. His pass efficiency rating is a whopping 638.80.
TEXAS A&M AGGIES: We learned Kyler Murray can play football a tad. The true freshman got the start against South Carolina after sitting out last week in coach Kevin Sumlin’s dog house. Against the Gamecocks, he led A&M in rushing and passing. He completed 20 of 28 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown. Murray also ran for 156 yards on 20 carries and another touchdown. The Aggies may be onto something with him under center.
