Where each SEC head coach ranks nationally in total salary for 2020

The SEC isn’t shy when it comes to opening its checkbook. Coaching salaries are going through the roof these days.

On Wednesday, USA TODAY’s updated coaching salary database was released, and it was no surprise to see 6 SEC coaches in the top 10 nationally.

As you can see below, Nick Saban holds on to the No. 1 spot, making $9,300,000 this year. Ed Orgeron of LSU jumped up to the No. 2:

• Kirby Smart, Georgia: $6,933,600 — No. 6
• Gus Malzahn, Auburn: $6,927,589 — No. 7
• Dan Mullen, Florida: $6,070,000 — No. 10
• Mark Stoops, Kentucky: $5,013,600 — No. 15
• Mike Leach, Mississippi State: $5,000,000 — No. 16
• Will Muschamp, South Carolina: $4,370,000 — No. 22
• Eliah Drinkwitz, Missouri: $3,925,000 — No. 29
• Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee: $3,846,000 — No. 30
• Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss: $3,764,250 — No. 34
• Derek Mason, Vanderbilt: $3,534,497 — No. 38
• Sam Pittman, Arkansas: $2,900,000 — No. 53

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing athletic departments to tighten their budgets, we’ll see if anyone comes for Saban’s No. 1 spot over the next year.
