Questions quickly arose about LSU’s quarterback situation once the Tigers lost to Wisconsin Week 1. In Week 2, the battle didn’t get any more clear.

LSU faced an FCS opponent in Jacksonville State yesterday and the team won 34-13. A 21-point victory is nothing to scoff at, but the game was scoreless through one quarter and neither signal caller made their presence felt.

Brandon Harris completed 1-of-4 passes for eight yards before being benched for Danny Etling. Etling then proceeded to complete 6-of-14 passes for 100 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Completing less than 50 percent of your attempts while throwing an interception isn’t exactly a recipe for success against SEC competition down the road. Head coach Les Miles wasn’t impressed.

“We’re trying to get Brandon comfortable and settled down, but I don’t know if that will happen,” Miles told reporters after the 34-13 win, via thescore.com. “It depends how this quarterback competition plays out.”

Miles then talked about his Purdue transfer in Etling.

“He was not perfect by any means,” Miles said. “As I recall, he’s 6-for-14, which is not what we want, and we had some guys wide open, certainly, but that was his first start – his first playing time I should say – and certainly performed well, to a point.”

The Tigers begin its SEC schedule next week when they get Mississippi State at home. The Bulldogs are 1-1 on the season after losing to South Alabama in its season-opener and then defeating South Carolina yesterday, 27-14.
