A season ago, South Carolina finished third-to-last in the conference with only 20 sacks.
Regarded universally as a defensive-minded coach, Will Muschamp undoubtedly will work doggedly on improving the paltry pass rush.
Possessing a quality pass rush helps to mask multiple deficiencies a team may have — especially from a depth and secondary standpoint.
Needing an influx of talent, South Carolina signed four high school defensive line prospects (Aaron Thompson, Dennis Wonnum, Kobe Smith, Keir Thomas) and have a redshirt freshman (Shameik Blackshear) also in the fold ready to contribute in 2016.
Via a report from The Big Spur, Muschamp analyzed the aforementioned quintet.
Wonnum in particular has been impressing immensely during the fall period. Thompson has been featuring inside, and Thomas specifically has been garnering effusive praise.
“Keir Thomas is going to move inside for us. He’s a guy that played inside (in high school),” said Muschamp. “Since he’s been here, he’s blown up. He’s up to 270 and I mean that in a good way. He’s changed his body, he’s looking good.”
Based upon Thomas’s play thus far, he’s propelled himself into the two-deep, playing behind projected starter Marquavius Lewis.
