Will Muschamp discusses his plans for DT Josh Belk, who was ruled eligible Thursday
During Will Muschamp’s call-in show on Thursday night, he discussed his plans for freshman defensive tackle Josh Belk.
The former Clemson Tiger was ruled eligible by the NCAA earlier on Thursday, but it remains to be seen when he will start playing or how he will fit into South Carolina’s defensive rotation.
“We’ve got to get Josh in a little better shape,” Muschamp said. “Right now, he is not game-planned with us. Today was his first practice with the defense. But moving forward, he’s going to contribute to our football team.”
According to 247Sports, when host Todd Ellis pressed Muschamp to give an answer on playing time, he said there’s “no doubt” that Belk will play on Saturday against Coastal Carolina.
“We’ve got to continue to work — he and I had a talk today, about getting back in shape. … He understands that,” Muschamp said. “Josh is a really bright young man. He’s got everything in front of him. He’s a really talented guy. We’re excited to have him, to have an opportunity to play for us this year.”
Muschamp is building a legitimate SEC defensive line in Columbia.
