Will Muschamp updates injury status of RB Rico Dowdle, OL Dylan Wonnum, others
On the heels of their disappointing defeat at the hands of the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville on October 26, South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp addressed a number of topics during his Sunday teleconference.
Chief among the items of conversation were the injuries that have riddled Muschamp’s program in recent weeks. Josh Kendall, South Carolina beat writer for The Athletic, shared an updated injury report headed into Saturday’s matchup with Vanderbilt:
South Carolina injury report for Vanderbilt: OUT – RB Rico Dowdle (knee), OT Dylan Wonnum (ankle), LB Damani Staley; DOUBTFUL — A.J. Turner (hamstring); PROBABLE — OL Sadarius Hutcherson (ankle), LB Ernest Jones (elbow).

The team’s second-leading rusher with 457 yards, Dowdle left the loss to Florida on October 19 with a knee injury. While initially hopeful he could suit up vs. the Volunteers, the Gamecocks are now anticipating a two-to-three week absence for the senior.
Just as big of a loss for freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski, sophomore right tackle Dylan Wonnum will also miss the battle with the Commodores. An SEC All-Freshman Team selection a year ago, Wonnum is the younger brother of South Carolina senior linebacker D.J. Wonnum.
On the bright side for South Carolina, one of Wonnum’s linemates, redshirt junior left tackle Sadarius Hutcherson (ankle), is expected to be good to go.
Their second consecutive loss, the Tennessee game dropped Muschamp’s team to 3-5 on the season. One game ahead of Vanderbilt (2-5) in the SEC East standings, Saturday’s action represents a potential turning point for South Carolina’s season: Win, and your bowl hopes are still alive. Lose, and they’re on life support.
Scheduled to kick at 7:30PM ET, Vanderbilt at South Carolina will air on the SEC Network.
