Will Reichard reflects on Auburn tackle: ‘I play with some fire at times’

Alabama kicker Will Reichard has had a very good career thus far during his time as the Crimson Tide kicker. Any time you are the all-time leader in a statistic in football at Alabama, you are doing a pretty good job. For Reichard, he is the all-time leading scorer in Alabama history, as he enters the season with 426 points and has made the most PATs with 240.

However, when talking about last season, it isn’t a kick he was talking about, but, rather, a tackle. In the Iron Bowl last season, he made a touchdown-saving tackle that would have cut Alabama’s lead to a single possession.

“That was a fun one,” Reichard said Thursday. “First tackle of my career. I got a little bit lucky. If he runs through that hole 10 times, I probably would only beat him one out of 10. It is fun. The reaction kind of blew up a little bit. It was in the moment. I play with some fire at times. My emotion kind of came out a little bit. Definitely a fun play.”

The kicker getting a tackle on a kick return isn’t usually a good thing, as that means the other team will be getting good field position. However, Reichard made a big play that will live in Alabama’s football lore forever.
