Xavier Worthy delivers record-setting performance at NFL Combine

Xavier Worthy is now the fastest man in the history of the NFL Combine!

Saturday evening, Worthy stepped onto the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to run the 40-yard dash. His first time was an eye-opener after Worthy ran a 4.25, but he was not done yet.

In his second turn, Worthy initially ran an unofficial 4.22, a time that would have tied Washington’s John Ross (2017) for the fastest run in NFL Combine history. Worthy’s time eventually went official at 4.21, breaking Ross’ record.

Worthy entered this year’s draft after 3 years at Texas, including 1,014 receiving yards this past season and 26 career receiving touchdowns. He is also a threat in the return game with 371 punt return yards and 16.9 yards per return this past season, including a return touchdown.

Whether or not Worthy’s time is able to lift him into the first round remains to be seen. He is part of an extremely deep wide receiver group that includes Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., Troy Franklin and teammate Adonai Mitchell who had his own impressive showing at the Combine.

During his record-setting run, Worthy set a top speed of 24.41 MPH as the top speed in the WR group. No other receiver eclipsed the 24 MPH mark.
