Zach Calzada – yes, that Zach Calzada – entered the transfer portal on Monday after a stellar season in the FCS ranks at Incarnate Word.

SEC fans are quite familiar with Calzada, who played for Texas A&M and Auburn before transferring to Incarnate Word ahead of the 2023 season. If you’re wondering how he still has eligibility left, here’s how it breaks down: Calzada redshirted in 2019 and missed the 2020 Covid season. He then played for the Aggies in 2021, most notably leading a 41-38 victory over No. 1 Alabama.

From there, Calzada transferred to Auburn but did not play in 2022 due to a shoulder injury. He hopped back in the portal having not played a snap on The Plains with his eyes set on Incarnate Word.

And he was a superstar for the Cardinals. This past season Calzada threw for 3,744 yards, 35 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. It’s an improvement over his first season where he threw for 19 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

The question now is this: Where will he land for his final season of eligibility? Of course, the thought is that he will return to the FBS ranks, perhaps with a Power 4 program and potentially even an SEC program.
