NBA game experiences delay due to bat inside arena

One NBA game Saturday experienced an odd delay in the action with an animal trapped inside the arena.

The game occurred in San Antonio with the Spurs facing the Minnesota Timberwolves. The stoppage came early in the first quarter with the game delayed due to a bat inside the arena near the court.

Ironically, the San Antonio coyote mascot was dressed for the job in a Batman outfit and equipped with a net. Somehow, the mascot was eventually able to snag the bat with the net after providing some comedic relief.

Amazingly, this is not the first instance of a bat in San Antonio in recent history. The latest occurrence — likely combined with the performance of the mascot acting as Batman — led some to wonder if this was all a staged stunt by the Spurs.

While that seems unlikely, it’s another chapter of the weird and wacky sports occurrences that social media reacted to accordingly:
