Derek Stingley Jr. becomes highest-paid DB in NFL history with new extension

Derek Stingley Jr. is making headlines with his new deal. The former LSU standout is set to become the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history with his new contract.
Stingley and the Houston Texans have reportedly agreed to a 3-year extension for $90 million with nearly all of it guaranteed.

Stingley had a standout career at LSU from 2019-21, winning a national championship and being named a 2-time All-American. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Stingley is coming off his best pro season yet.
In 2024, Stingley started all 17 games. He recorded 18 passes defended with 5 interceptions, adding 37 tackles with 17 solo stops and 4 TFLs. In 2 postseason games, Stingley added 5 passes defended with 2 interceptions. He was named first-team All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl.
In 3 seasons, Stingley has played in 37 games. He has 36 career passes defended, with 11 interceptions. Stingley has also made 136 tackles with 100 solo stops and 5 TFLs.
