Our Super Bowl 59 Underdog Picks

Andrew Olson

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles RB: Higher than 21.5 rush attempts

Teams don’t tend to run their RB1 for a lot of carries against the Chiefs. Most teams, though, don’t have Saquon Barkley as RB1. Barkley is averaging 22 carries per playoff game, and that’s with the Washington blowout included when 6 different Eagles logged rushes.

Xavier Worthy, Kansas City Chiefs WR: Higher than 53.5 receiving yards

While some rookies fade at the end of the season, Worthy seems to be putting it together lately, and we all know he has the blazing speed to turn into any catch into a big play. In Worthy’s last 4 games, he’s only missed 54 yards once (45 yards against Houston).

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles QB: Higher than 0.5 rush+receiving TDs

Hurts enters this game with 18 rushing scores (14 regular season, 4 postseason). We all know he’s option 1 at the goal line. But Hurts also reminds us from time to time that he can still run it in from a few yards out.

DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles WR: Higher than 51.5 receiving yards

Smith has torched the Chiefs in his career. In 3 games vs. Kansas City, he has 122, 100 and 99 receiving yards. He’s solid against the zone and is able to find the holes in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. He might not reach 99 yards again, but I think 52 yards is very doable.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs QB: Higher than 6.5 rush attempts

Mahomes uses his legs more during the playoffs. He ran 11 times against Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game. And we need to remember that kneel-downs count as rush attempts. I like Mahomes to get to 7+ rushes on Sunday night.

DeAndre Hopkins, Kansas City Chiefs WR: Higher than 12.5 receiving yards

The Chiefs haven’t used Hopkins a lot this postseason. He’s only recorded 1 catch on 3 targets for 11 yards. But with an extra week to prepare for this game, I expect Andy Reid to have come up with some clever plays. Even if Hopkins only gets 1-2 catches on Sunday, he should surpass this number.
