Former Alabama QB Mac Jones is on the move.

Jones is heading west for the first time in his career. According to reports, Jones has agreed to a 2-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers for $7 million with $5 million guaranteed.

Jones is entering Year 5 of his professional career. After a decorated 2020 season at Alabama guiding the Crimson Tide to the national championship, Jones was selected No. 15 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Jones spent his first 3 seasons in New England before the team traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jones made the PFWA All-Rookie Team and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021. He posted the best numbers of his career, completing 67.6% of his passes (352-of-521) for 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Jones was a 14-game starter in 2022, missing 3 games due to an ankle injury. He remained the Patriots starter entering 2023, but was benched during the season and only played in 11 games.

New England traded Jones to Jacksonville for a draft pick a year ago. The Jaguars acquired Jones to be Trevor Lawrence’s backup. An injury to Lawrence, however, resulted in Jones making 10 appearances with 7 starts last season. Jones was 171-of-262 (65.3%) passing for 1,672 yards with 8 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.
