Charlton was placed on Injured Reserve by the Panthers on Oct. 14 due to a lower back injury. He is fully healthy now, according to Pelissero.
He averaged 39.1 yards on 21 punts during the club’s opening 5 games (35.8-yard net), but after his IR placement, Lac Edwards took command of the job. Edwards is averaging 48.5 yards per punt during the team’s last 3 games.
As a rookie in 2020, Charlton averaged 46.3 yards a punt on 45 attempts. In 3 full seasons at South Carolina, the Columbia native set the program record for career punting average at 45.5 yards and put up the best 2 seasons for a punter in school history (44.8-yard average in 2018, 47.7-yard average in 2019).
