Ja’Marr Chase might be closing in on a payday not seen for a non-QB in NFL history.
And the former LSU star wide receiver might be getting that record-breaking payday from the Cincinnati Bengals just days after former Texas A&M standout defensive end Myles Garrett made some history by re-signing with the Cleveland Browns. Garrett signed a mega 4-year, $160 million contract extension with the Browns last Sunday, meaning he’ll be raking in a cool $40 million per season in Cleveland.
Well, NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport reported on Friday night that the Bengals have made “real progress” on large contracts for their star wideouts. According to Rapoport, Chase’s deal with the Bengals could land somewhere in that same $40 million-per-year range that Garrett just got. Or Chase’s new contract could be more than that, which would make him the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback in league history, eclipsing Garrett.

Rapoport also reported that Cincinnati’s other star wideout, former Clemson standout Tee Higgins, could be making far north of $20 million per season. But even that deal would be far outdone by Chase’s reported potential contract.
Chase is already a 4-time Pro Bowl selection after leading LSU to a national championship in 2019 with quarterback Joe Burrow, who Chase just happens to catch passes from in Cincinnati.
