Jim Harbaugh’s name continues to be linked to a return to the NFL with the latest reports indicating a deal could materialize with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Harbaugh and the Chargers are reportedly meeting on Tuesday and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports the two sides are “in the zone” of a potential deal. If that deal does go through, there are already reports of what Harbaugh’s staff with the Chargers could look like.
According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, if Harbaugh is offered and accepted the job in LA, he would bring Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter with him to the NFL. Michigan’s special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh — Jim’s son — would fill the same post for the Chargers.
As for Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator, Wilson reports that would likely go to Greg Roman. Roman has ties to Harbaugh and spent time on his Stanford staff before serving as Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers.

Since Harbaugh left the NFL for Michigan, Roman has bounced around with stints for the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens. He was John Harbaugh’s OC from 2019-22.
How might a potential Jim Harbaugh @CoachJim4UM staff look should he be offered and accept #Chargers job? Per league sources, offensive coordinator could be Greg Roman, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh, Jim’s son @KPRC2

If Wilson’s report holds true, it will be somewhat of a relief to Michigan fans. Though losing Harbaugh would sting, many expect offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore to be the current “coach in waiting” for the Wolverines. With Moore’s name omitted from the report, it could be a good sign he will remain in Ann Arbor regardless.
Wilson’s report is particularly intriguing considering Garafolo reported Harbaugh and the Chargers are entering the portion of discussions related to staffing. Those decisions relate to a general manager for the franchise and Harbaugh’s coaching staff.
