Kansas City police are working an active scene at the end of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade and rally on Wednesday afternoon.
The police shared on social media that “shots have been fired around Union Station. Please leave the area. Officers are working to clear Union Station itself. We will release everyone inside the building once that is complete. We are still trying to determine the number of shooting victims.”
They later added that 2 armed people were taken into custody for more investigation. The area was cleared about 8 minutes after the first reports. Ambulances responded and officers scurried to the area with guns drawn.
The incident came as downtown Kansas City was enveloped in red as Chiefs fans celebrate their third Super Bowl title in 5 seasons with a parade.
