With the 2021 NFL Draft being held in Cleveland, there was bound to be some musical element to the evening.
With fans gathered on the shore of Lake Erie just minutes from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awaiting Trevor Lawrence’s official selection to the Jacksonville Jaguars—following last year’s draft held virtually due to COVID-19—it was Grammy-award-winning band Kings of Leon taking the stage to perform. The band might be best known for their song “Use Somebody”, released nearly 11 years ago.
And there was plenty of social media reaction from across Twitter as an NFL Draft scheduled to begin around 8 pm ET on Thursday truly get underway about 25 minutes after the hour due to the band’s performance—and with the Jaguars using a good portion of their allotted time before putting their selection for Lawrence in and having it announced by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
While Kings of Leon certainly fits the rock and roll genre, their presence at the draft led to some humorous and rather biting tweets. Here’s a sampling of some of them:
You guys are cracking on Kings of Leon but their Mom is their business manager so they should be deeply relatable to 75% of you

After the Jags hand Roger the card:
"But first, let's hear one more from Kings of Leon!"— Eric Galvan (@eg720) April 30, 2021
NFL: “Who’s ready to rock?”
Not me.
NFL: “Let’s get you pumped up!”
I mean, I’m pretty good already.
NFL: “Put your hands together for Kings of Leon!”
Ok, I’ll just mute it for a minute.

It's 8:20 and not a single pick has been made yet. Bills aren't going to be picking till 2 am after Kings of Leon perform again….

Note to the NFL, I haven't put up with 2,583,471 mock drafts since January to have Kings of Leon shoved down my throat. It's the draft not the Super Bowl halftime show. I wouldn't want them there either.

I guess now is as good as any to announce that Kings of Leon will be playing upon my return to Dave & Busters next month live on Quibi

Is Kings of Leon still relevant?
