Kirk Herbstreit and Al Michaels are the new broadcasting team for Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football, and when the NFL released the 2022 schedule on Thursday, they had a chance on the NFL Network to discuss working together.

Herbstreit, the well-known ESPN college football commentator, who has called college games for 25 years, noted that Thursday was one of the first times he got a chance to talk publicly about working with Michaels.

“Just beyond fired up to have an opportunity to come into the NFL and to be able to work with Al Michaels, who as you mentioned, the GOAT, just somebody I really admire for decades,” Herbstreit said. “So it’s going to be an honor for me to be in the booth with him and to have a chance to move up and call some NFL games.”

One of the games on Thursday will be Miami against Cincinnati in an SEC battle between quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Joe Burrow.

Michaels referred to the opening game, the Chargers against the Chiefs and the prominent quarterbacks in the game with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert.

“The NFL has gotten to the point where the schedule comes out, you go, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to see that game, and the game might turn out to be so-so,” he said. “And then you look down on the schedule, you see some other games, and you go, ‘Well, that doesn’t mean anything,’ and it turns out to be a barn burner. This is where we are in today’s NFL world. To me, I can already think of the storyline for each of those games you’re seeing on the screen right now.”
