Mike McCarthy’s status for 2024 season revealed by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones

Mike McCarthy returning to Dallas for the 2024 season. The decision comes after the Cowboys’ season ended in disappointment with another early exit from the NFL playoffs.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a lengthy statement explaining the decision after ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news.

McCarthy, 60, has been with the Dallas Cowboys since 2020. After going 6-10 in 2020 (4-7 with Dak Prescott sidelined), the Cowboys have posted a 12-5 regular-season record each of the last three years. Under McCarthy, Dallas is now 1-3 in the postseason, only picking up a Wild Card win last year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Cowboys were favored by a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in Sunday’s NFC Wild Card Game. Green Bay jumped out to a 27-0 first-half lead in Dallas and would make it a 48-16 game in the 4th quarter, holding on for a 48-32 victory as the Cowboys attempted a late rally.
There was widespread speculation that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would move on from McCarthy after the crushing loss. The current pool of available coaches notably includes future Hall of Famer Bill Belichick, with Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh also taking interviews.
McCarthy, who coached Green Bay from 2006-to-2018, has a 167-102-2 record in the regular season and has gone 11-11 in postseason contests, winning Super Bowl XLV.
