Netflix is partnering with the NFL to deliver a pair of games around the holiday season. In the 2024 season, that includes 2 games on Christmas Day.
Netflix confirmed the addition of 2 Christmas Day games in a Wednesday announcement with the full NFL schedule release set to come out Wednesday evening. This is not the only year Netflix will air games with the company teasing at least 1 Christmas Day game in 2025 and 2026 as part of a 3-season deal with the NFL.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be the first professional sports league to partner with Netflix to bring live games to fans around the world,” says Hans Schroeder, NFL Executive Vice President of Media Distribution. “The NFL on Christmas has become a tradition and to partner with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is typically this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event globally for NFL fans.”
Netflix’s recent “Quarterback” documentary, chronicling the behind-the-scenes journey of 3 prominent QBs, received rave reviews, and the streaming company will be releasing a similar series entitled “Receiver” will premier this summer.

NFL on Christmas?
The NFL being played on Christmas Day has grown more traction in recent seasons. The first Christmas games came in 1971, and the NFL has played 30 total contests on Christmas Day entering 2024.
Games from 2021-23 were a commonsense decision for the league with the Christmas holiday falling on Saturday-Monday those years. The NFL traditionally plays games on those days throughout the calendar, so it made sense to keep Christmas Day games on the schedule.
The 2024 season presented a different challenge with Christmas falling on a Wednesday, a day of the week the NFL season typically avoids. Instead of bypassing Christmas Day, the NFL and Netflix are seizing the opportunity and will compete with the NBA, the sports league which traditionally dominates the holiday action.
