NFL announces Zxavian Harris, Dae’Quan Wright ineligible to join teams during 2026 season

Not only will Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright not be playing for LSU but now they won’t be eligible for the NFL this season either. The NFL sent out a memo on Wednesday with the announcement that both are ineligible from visiting, trying out or signing with any NFL teams for the 2026 season.
The defensive tackle Harris and tight end Wright, who previously played for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss, were the centerpieces of the controversy during the preseason, as both signed on to join LSU after previously being with NFL teams after but not making rosters. Both players were undrafted.
Wright was with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns. Harris was a member of the New Orleans Saints.
Initially, LSU was proceeding ahead with Harris and Wright even though they were ineligible according to the SEC. The loophole was Baton Rouge District Court Judge William Jorden granting over than 40 ex-NCAA athletes from the 2022 recruiting class a fifth year of eligibility which went against the NCAA rule which restricted them.
Yet eventually, after the threat of being expelled from the conference, LSU relented on inserting Harris and Wright onto the roster. The saga is over, but it certainly raised an interesting hypothetical that drew a backlash from the college football world.
