Paul Finebaum not confident in Urban Meyer as NFL head coach: ‘I think he will self-destruct’

Urban Meyer just coached his first game at his new job as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars over the weekend, losing to the Cleveland Browns in the first preseason game, 23-13.
During his show this week, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum weighed in on how he thinks Meyer will do as an NFL head coach.
He didn’t hold back, either, saying he thinks Meyer will “self-destruct” at his new job (via 247Sports):
“Ultimately the reason why I think he will struggle is that winning in the NFL is essential, but you are going to lose some,” Finebaum said. “You can get to the playoffs at 9-7. And Urban Meyer is one of the worst losers I’ve ever seen. He has never lost very often and when it does it begins to eat away at him. And I don’t think he has the makeup to survive the losing this year. He’s got a terrible football team; I watched their preseason game the other night. And it will be shocking if they win more than five or six games.
“I’m not sure he’s going to be able to handle that and ultimately I think he will self-destruct like he’s done a few other times in his career. He had success there but he couldn’t finish the job.”
This is the first time that Urban Meyer has coached an NFL team, though he has had many jobs in college football throughout the years.
He first started off as a grad assistant at Ohio State in 1986, and wouldn’t become a head coach until his stint at Bowling Green from 2001-2002.
Meyer then went on to coach at Utah and Florida before returning to Ohio State in 2012 as head coach. He’s a 3-time national champion.
