NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is open to moving Sunday Ticket to a streaming platform.
This move could be the latest media deal for the NFL. In an interview with “Squawk on the Street” on CNBC, Goodell said the transition could happen as soon as this season:
“I clearly believe we’ll be moving to a streaming service,” Goodell said. “The consumers want it.”
NFL Sunday Ticket is currently delivered on DirecTV and has been broadcast on that outlet for years. Sunday Ticket allows consumers to watch NFL games that are not in their local media market.

If Sunday Ticket moves to a streaming service, it would be a direct-to-consumer service that the NFL would provide. While it is unclear which streaming service will land the rights for the Sunday Ticket package, it will give consumers without DirecTV an opportunity to purchase the package on a streaming service.

DirecTV could still have some broadcasting rights to Sunday Ticket, but the NFL might add a streaming service to make the package widely available to NFL fans. The NFL started teaming up with streaming services like Amazon and Paramount in recent years.
Thursday Night Football will air exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, which could allow Amazon to compete for rights to air Sunday Ticket.
