Ryan Clark has apologized for what many deemed to be distasteful comments about the weight of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

After the analyst made the comments about Tagovailoa’s bulked up frame, the Alabama product ferociously fired back.

“He probably knows more about me than I know about me. I don’t know, Ryan’s been out of the league for some time,” said Tagovailoa. “I don’t know, it’s a little weird when other people are talking about other people when they’re not that person, it’s a little weird.”

In his public apology, Clark explains that his comments don’t reflect his desire to treat those in the league with dignity and grace.

“It was never my intention to question Tua’s work ethic or commitment to the game, but I’m also aware enough to know that intent, doesn’t always match impact,” Clark said. “How something is presented isn’t always how it’s received by everyone. I do my best to be honest when executing my job as well as being honest when I fall short. I fell short on Monday and for that, I genuinely apologize.”

Tagovailoa will attempt to participate in a full season in 2023 for the first time in his pro career as he’s endured concussions and injuries to his back, ribs, and fingers. Last season, Tagovailoa led the NFL in passer rating (105.5) while being 3rd in QBR (68.8), and tied for 8th in touchdown passes (25).
