Another NFL head coaching job has opened up before the end of the 2023 season.
The Carolina Panthers announced Monday morning that the club has dismissed Frank Reich as head coach after a 1-10 start. Reich is the second NFL head coach to be fired in 2023 following the Las Vegas Raiders’ dismissal of Josh McDaniels.
Reich has now been fired in back-to-back seasons. He posted a 40-33 record with the Indianapolis Colts, making the playoffs in 2018 and ’20. In 2022, however, he was fired after the Colts fell to 3-5-1 on the season.
The Panthers hired Reich on Jan. 26. Carolina’s lone win of the 2023 season came in Week 8 against the Houston Texans, a 15-13 home victory in Charlotte. On Sunday, the Panthers lost to the Tennessee Titans 17-10 in Nashville.
Many Alabama fans will be interested in seeing where Carolina turns for its next head coach. The Panthers drafted Bryce Young No. 1 overall in 2023.
Young has played 10 games as a rookie starter. He is 216-of-350 passing for 1,877 yards, 9 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, taking 40 sacks. Young’s QBR of 32 ranks 29th in the league.
Panthers owner David Tepper announced that special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will serve as the interim head coach. Carolina is on the road in Week 13 to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
