Super Bowl field conditions: NFL reportedly offers ‘excuse’ for slippery field in Eagles-Chiefs matchup

The Super Bowl field conditions were unfortunately a major storyline from Super Bowl LVII.
In the showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, players struggled with their footing while slipping and sliding across the playing surface. Social media even weighed in as big chunks of the field were dislodged throughout the action.
Well, as of Monday, the NFL reportedly has been privately giving out an excuse to teams, per a report from Mike Florio with ProFootballTalk. According to Florio, the NFL has been blaming the players for the poor playing surface.
Take a look:
The NFL has an unofficial excuse for the situation, one that has been communicated when owners ask about it. Per a league source, the league blames the players for not wearing the right shoes.
While it is true certain types of cleats are best for different playing surfaces, Florio also notes that Eagles players changed their cleats during the game with little success. That makes the excuse a bit flimsy, to say the least.
The other point to consider is that this occurred in the Super Bowl when it is naturally assumed that playing conditions — particularly the field — will be at their absolute best. Anything short of great conditions is bound to be disappointing, and these conditions were a far cry from that, with or without the proper cleats.
